PAST PROJECTS:
(SPA II) project
The Strategic Partnership Agreement II (SPA II) project—implemented in Liberia by the Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI) in partnership with ActionAid Liberia and funded by DANIDA—is a multi-year initiative that empowers young people, particularly young women and marginalized girls, to claim their human and democratic rights. By focusing on gender-responsive education budget tracking, youth leadership development, and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) prevention, the project builds the capacity of local female leaders to advocate for transparent governance, equitable public spending, and safer, more inclusive educational and civic spaces across Liberia.
ENOUGH PROJECT
Enough! – Empowering women, girls, boys, and men to take positive action in ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Liberia" is a multi-year initiative dedicated to eradicating all forms of violence against women and girls. Implemented by the Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI) as part of a consortium led by Oxfam in Liberia and the Foundation for Community Initiatives (FCI), with funding from the European Union (EU), the project creates an enabling environment where women and girls can safely exercise, know, and claim their fundamental human rights.
Advocacy for Action on Girl-Friendly WASH in Schools
The Advocacy for Action on Girl-Friendly WASH in Schools Project is a targeted intervention designed to address the critical gaps in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure and policies across Liberian learning institutions. Funded by the U.S. Department of State through the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF), the project was spearheaded and implemented by U.S. exchange program alumnae Atty. Facia B. Harris and Ms. Hawa C. Wilson, with the Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI) serving as the fiscal host and operational partner.
PAST PROJECTS:
PAYOWI COVID-19, SGBV, and Economic Empowerment Response
In mid-March 2020, Liberia recorded its first COVID-19 case, triggering a severe public health and socio-economic crisis. The ensuing state of emergency, national lockdowns, and movement restrictions disproportionately affected female-headed households and women in the informal economy. Deprived of daily income-generating activities and confined to home environments, women faced compound threats: severe financial distress and a shadow pandemic of heightened Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
Supported by the Feminist Humanitarian Network (FHN) through the Feminist Humanitarian Fund, the Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI) launched this emergency response project to provide immediate relief, mitigate gender-based violence, and establish sustainable economic safety nets for marginalized women across Liberia.
